Eric Zeier

Eric Zeier Growing up in a talent laden city, such as Marietta, Georgia, Eric Zeier knew that, with his God-given abilities and the community’s trend of placing athletes into major universities, the professional ranks would be within his grasp.  The abilities that he was given took shape in high school.  As a senior at Marietta High, Zeier was pinned as the top football prospect in the nation.  To go along with this recognition, Zeier was also selected to the USA Today All-USA team and to the Parade Magazine All-American team.  After being selected as the SuperPrep Player of the Year, Zeier entered the University of Georgia in 1991 to pursue his aspirations to compete at quarterback on the collegiate ranks.

While success was abundant at Marietta, the Georgia faithful hoped that success would carry over to the Bulldogs.  Zeier didn’t disappoint.  After splitting time at quarterback the first six games of the 1991 season, Zeier started the remaining six establishing school records, as a freshman, in pass completions, pass attempts and passing yards.  These accomplishments didn’t go unnoticed as he was named to the Freshman All-American team as well as many publications pinning him as the SEC Freshman of the Year.  As a sophomore in 1992, Zeier experienced much of the same success.  He amassed impressive stats and was named to the 2nd Team All-SEC.  As a junior in 1993, the assault on Georgia and SEC records continued.  In 1993, Zeier set the SEC record for passing yards in a game (544), passing yards in a season (3,525) and total offense in a season (3,482).  As a senior in 1994, much of the same continued, as he broke the SEC career passing record with 11,153 yards and the SEC career total offense record with 10,841 yards.  Notwithstanding the athletic prowess Zeier displayed on-the-field, the academic element of college was also well recognized landing Zeier Academic All-SEC and SEC Academic Honor Roll in 1992 and 1993.

After his highly decorated and widely documented college career at the University of Georgia, the NFL came calling. In 1995, Zeier was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 3rd Round.  As a professional, Zeier played a total of six years, split between the Cleveland Browns, the Baltimore Ravens and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, finishing his career with 3,520 passing yards as well as a 56.1 completion percentage.
