Albert Haynesworth’s football career began at Hartsville High School in his hometown Hartsville, SC. He earned Super-Prep All-America and was listed on ESPN’s top 100 players in nation as senior. He was rated as the best high school defensive tackle by National Recruiting Advisor. After being recruited by Head Coach Phillip Fulmer, Albert decided to accept a scholarship to the University of Tennessee. His impact was immediate, as he went on to be named to the Sporting News Freshman All-American Team in 1999. Teaming up with another future NFL player, John Henderson, Albert was part of one of the most dominating defensive lines in college football at the time, and was named 2nd team All-SEC his junior year. He ended his collegiate career as a three-year letterman at Tennessee and compiled 66 tackles, five sacks, 31 quarterback pressures, 20 stops behind line of scrimmage and nine pass deflections. Albert was selected by the Tennessee Titans with the15th overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft and was the second defensive tackle taken. Albert played 7 seasons with the Tennessee Titans, twice earning first-team All-Pro honors from the Associated Press in 2007 and 2008, and was also named to the AFC Pro-Bowl team in 2007 and 2008. On the first day of the 2009 free agency period, Albert signed a record setting 7 year, $100 million contract with the Washington Redskins. It was during this time that Albert was named the most dominant defender in the NFL by his peers in a Sports Illustrated poll of the league. Albert is now entering his second season with the Washington Redskins. |
