Ken Harvey grew up in Austin, Texas. Shortly after attending the U. C. Berkeley, he was selected for the first round (12th overall) of the 1988 NFL draft. During the draft he was selected by the Arizona Cardinals as a linebacker. There Ken Harvey played six seasons until signing with the Washington Redskins in 1994. Ken Harvey was selected to his fourth straight NFL Pro Bowl in 1997 and ended his career with 89 sacks, averaging 8.6 per season. Ken retired just prior to the start of the 1999 season.
In 2002, Ken received the prestigious honor of being nominated in the Washington Redskin’s highest accolade as one of “70 Greatest Redskins.” Shortly after receiving that honor, he was chosen and inducted into the “Redskins Ring of Fame at Fed Ex Field.”
With a love for his own children, Ken Harvey began writing children’s books. “When Chocolate Milk Moved is the first of several books he has authored in the Life in the Fridge Series. His love of children and his constant generosity to children’s charities is evident as the President of the Washington Redskins NFL Alumni Association. A nonprofit 501(c)3 which primary focus is to use former athletes to raise monies for the NFL’s “Caring for Kids Campaign.” In the last year he has helped to raise thousands of dollars for organizations in need of support for children.
In addition to running a successful Virginia based television and film Production Company called “Ikoya.” Ken Harvey spends his time delivering powerful motivational speeches to corporations and Christian organizations to encourage and empower others to realize in their God given abilities. His can do attitude and zest for life is a true inspiration to those who have a chance to hear him speak.
