Chris Doering is known around the SEC as the former Florida Gator Wide Receiver who could always make the catch. None was more important than the catch from Danny Wuerffel on September 11, 1995, to defeat Kentucky 24 – 20.
Chris followed his heart and started out as a walk-on at the University of Florida. After much hard work and determination, he earned not only a scholarship, but set a single-season SEC record with 17 TD catches in 1995. A second-team All-American and a first-team All-SEC choice in 1995, Chris ended his career with 31 TD catches, the most in SEC and Florida history. At Florida, he had a grand total of 149 career catches (fourth-best at UF) for 2,107 yards (also fourth-best at UF). Doering became the 13th player in NCAA Division I-A history to catch 30 or more career TD passes. He also set a NCAA record in '95 for most games catching at least one touchdown pass - with a total of 11.
Chris spent ten seasons in the NFL with the Houston Texans, Washington Redskins, Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos. He continues to be a fan favorite at events around the southeast. |
